Description
The Z32’s transmission was ahead of its time, with double-cone synchronizers to facilitate faster shifting. However, these synchros were also soft and prone to failure, especially as years of abuse and fast shifting take their toll. This leads to crunching and grinding between gears, especially in 2nd and 4th gears.
In 1998, Nissan revised the transmission design to use more durable synchronizers, and many of the internals were updated in the process. The shift gate was also revised slightly to allow for faster shifts from 2nd to 3rd, and 4th to 5th. Not only will they last longer, but shifting is buttery smooth, so it’s more enjoyable to drive!

WARNING – NO OIL!
Genuine Nissan’s new transmissions are only pre-filled with fluid to prevent the internals from corroding during storage and shipping. This gear oil is insufficient and must be drained before use.
Please have this fluid drained and the transmission refilled upon installation with the correct specification gear oil before any operations.
